Condui on iPad and smartphone

Touch controls, gestures, and the compact editor layout.

Condui works on iPad and smartphone with touch controls. The editor automatically adapts its layout to a smaller or narrower screen. Button and tool names stay the same, but they are not always in the same place as on a desktop or laptop.

Good to know

  • Rotate an iPad or smartphone to landscape when editing a diagram with many components.
  • In the compact layout, the views (One-wire, Plan, Panel) remain central. Other panels appear as tabs at the bottom in portrait mode or on the right in landscape mode.
  • Select an object first, then open Properties to edit its details. On a small screen, Properties opens as a compact panel.
  • iPad uses a hybrid approach: depending on the model and orientation, the interface may be closer to or further from the desktop version.
  • Since there are no keyboard shortcuts, you rely more on the context menu for actions such as deleting or duplicating.

Gestures on a view

GestureAction
TapSelect an object or activate a button.
Drag with one finger over an empty area :ui-icon[touch-pan]Pan the view.
Drag a *selected* object :ui-icon[touch-pan]Move the object when it can be moved on that view.
Drag or pinch with two fingers :ui-icon[touch-zoom]Pan the view or zoom in and out.
Double-tap an objectOpen the context menu, for example for Move to floor... or Delete.
Long pressMulti-select, change the selection, or copy.

When zooming, the area between your fingers remains the starting point. Zoom in on the part you want to edit precisely, then pan with two fingers if needed.

Long press

Keep your finger in the same place until the progress indicator finishes. The action depends on where you press:

  • Adjust selection: On a supported object, a long press can add the object to the selection or remove it from the selection.
  • Copy: On the One-wire view, a long press on an endpoint or protection can start a copy drag immediately. Drag the copy to its new position and release.
  • Selection box: On an empty area, and on views that support box selection, a long press followed by a drag can create a selection box.

A drawing tool changes the gesture behavior

In [:ui-icon[draw-mode] Draw mode](/en/panels/plan-canvas/draw-mode), one finger takes priority for the active drawing tool, such as a wall, door, window, or graphic element. You cannot pan with one finger, but two fingers still pan or zoom the view.

Place symbols from the library

Open the Symbol library through the library tab. Press and hold a symbol, then drag it to a valid position on the active view. On a smartphone, the library is small and you may need to scroll horizontally.

On the situation plan, you can drag an existing placement in the same way. Use a double-tap when you need the context menu.

The compact editor layout

On a narrow screen, Condui makes the workspace more compact:

  • In portrait mode, the active auxiliary panel is below the views. Use the arrow to hide and show the panel.
  • In landscape mode, the auxiliary panel is usually on the right, leaving more height for the diagram.
  • Panels are available through tabs, such as Symbol library, Properties, Validation, Hardware tally, and Quick Placer when available.
  • The top bar shows less text. Open the menu for project actions, settings, export, and other functions.
  • With two views open, they can be stacked in portrait mode or placed side by side in landscape mode when the selected layout supports it.

Three fingers for panels and focus

On an iPad and other devices that pass through this gesture, you can swipe with three fingers:

  • Swipe up or down to show or hide the auxiliary panel in the compact layout.
  • Swipe left or right from the left half to hide or show the left panel.
  • Swipe left or right from the right half to open or close Properties.

These gestures are optional. You can always perform the same actions with the visible buttons and tabs.

iPad versus smartphone

DeviceWhat to expect
iPadThe larger screen is suitable for a diagram and one panel at the same time. Landscape mode is usually clearest for working side by side.
SmartphoneIn portrait mode, panels are usually at the bottom and you need to scroll more often. Selection lists may open using the operating system's standard control.
iPad with keyboard or mouseYou can also use the normal keyboard and mouse controls.

The exact layout can change when you rotate the device, open a keyboard, or show a panel. Condui keeps your project content, but after such a change you may need to fit the view to the view again.
