Cable schedule

Every cable in your installation by board and circuit, with its length estimated from the site plan and a total per cable type.

The cable schedule lists every cable in your installation: where it runs from and to, which cable type it is, and how long it is. Condui estimates those lengths from the site plan, so you know how much cable you need without a tape measure. At the bottom you get the total per cable type, ready to order.

What you need

  • Symbols placed on the site plan. A point that is not placed yet gets no length.
  • A floor plan with its scale set. Without a scale Condui cannot work out metres, see Import and scale a floor plan.
  • Cables on your circuits. The Cable column shows what you set on the one-wire diagram.

Open the cable schedule

  1. Open the Documents view.
  2. Under Schematics, click the Cable schedule card.

The cable schedule is always part of the project. You do not create it and you cannot remove it. It follows your project live: move a symbol or change a cable, and the schedule updates straight away.

Next to the site plan

Show the cable schedule next to the site plan. Hover a row and that cable lights up on the plan. Click a row to select the cable and the plan shows its route, even when it runs on another floor.

What is in the schedule?

Cables are grouped by board and, within each board, by circuit, in the order the circuit feeds them.

ColumnMeaning
CircuitThe circuit code.
#The order within the circuit.
From and ToStart and end point of the cable, with their symbol and code.
CableCable type, number of conductors, and cross-section, for example XVB 3G2.5.
Length (m)The length, or an estimate from minimum to maximum.
SourceWhere the length comes from.

Click the arrow next to a circuit to collapse it. You then see one row with the number of cables, the cable types, and the combined length. Click again to expand it.

While the pointer is over the schedule, the up and down arrow keys step through the cables.

Where does the length come from?

The Source column shows how certain each length is.

SourceMeaning
EnteredYou typed the length on the wire yourself. Condui never changes it.
From planYou accepted the estimate. The length is shown with ≈ in front.
EstimateCondui only has an estimate, from minimum to maximum.
Review lengthThe plan changed since you accepted the estimate. Check the length and accept it again.
Set scaleThe floor plan on that floor has no scale yet.
UnknownThere is no length and no estimate, for example because a point is not on the plan.

How Condui estimates the length

The one-wire diagram says which points a circuit feeds, not how the cable is laid. Condui therefore works out a plausible route for each circuit:

  • A lighting circuit follows the order of the one-wire diagram. Other points are fed from the nearest point that is already connected, or from the board.
  • Between wall-mounted devices the cable runs through the floor and rises in the wall to the device. To a ceiling device it runs through the ceiling.
  • To another floor the cable rises or drops at the board.
  • Junction boxes follow the order of the one-wire diagram.

The minimum estimate uses straight runs. The maximum estimate adds a margin for detours. If you know how a cable really runs, draw the route yourself with :ui-icon[wiring] Wiring. Condui then uses your route for that stretch.

Adjust the heights

The vertical runs depend on the floor height and the height of the devices. Select the cable schedule and change the values under Heights (m) in Properties:

HeightDefault
Floor height2.7 m
Sockets0.3 m
Switches1.1 m
Boards1.5 m

Clear a field and Condui uses the default value again.

Draw a route yourself

A cable that runs around a door, along a trunking, or through another wall is longer than the estimate. With the :ui-icon[wiring] Wiring tool on the site plan you lay the cable where it really runs.

  1. Open the site plan and choose :ui-icon[wiring] Wiring, or press W. All cables on the floor appear, coloured by group.
  2. Hover a cable and drag it to where it runs. A bend point is added.
  3. Drag a bend point to move it. To remove a bend point, click it and press Delete, or right-click it.
  4. If a cable runs to another floor, drag the floor passage to choose where it goes through the floor.
  5. Press W again or click Wiring to stop.

The cable schedule uses the new route straight away. If you had already accepted the estimate, that cable gets Review length.

You can also draw a cable between two symbols that are electrically connected: drag from one symbol to the other. A blue outline means the connection is possible; a red outline means those symbols are not connected that way in the one-wire diagram.

Accept estimates

An estimate is not yet a cable length. Accept it once you are happy with the placement on the plan:

  • Click Use at the end of a row to accept one estimate.
  • Click Use estimates at the top to accept all estimates at once. The number in brackets shows how many there are.

Condui takes the maximum estimate, rounded up to half a metre. A longer cable is the safe side for the short-circuit check at the far end of the cable. The length is stored on the wire, with From plan as its source.

You can do the same per wire: select a wire on the one-wire diagram and, in properties, click Use ≈ … m under the length. If you type a length there yourself, the source becomes Entered.

Non-household installations

For a non-household installation the one-wire diagram must show the cable lengths. Accept the lengths and turn on Show wire length on one-wire on the wire. Validation reports circuits whose length is not shown yet.

Totals per cable

Below the schedule, Totals per cable shows the total length per cable type across the whole project. For cables that only have an estimate, Condui counts the maximum estimate. A ≈ in front of a total means it still contains estimates.

Export

  • Export CSV downloads the full schedule as a CSV file you can open in Excel. It also contains the board and the minimum and maximum estimate for each cable.
  • To include the cable schedule in your PDF, select it and click :ui-icon[export-pdf] Include in export in properties. Turn on the Documents tile in the export dialog. The cable schedule is added as landscape A4 pages after the drawings.

Cables on the site plan

With the cable schedule selected, properties also control how cables are drawn on the site plan:

  • Style: Curved, 90°, or Straight.
  • Colour by group colours each cable by its kind: lighting, sockets, fixed devices, between boards, supply, DC, and earthing. A legend on the plan shows the colours.
  • Supply and earthing shows or hides the supply and earthing cables.

You find the same settings on the site plan under Visibility > Wiring. There you also choose which groups of cables you see. To move a cable, use the :ui-icon[wiring] Wiring tool, see Draw a route yourself.

Check

  • Every cable has Entered or From plan as its source.
  • No total per cable has a ≈ in front of it.
